Outbound traffic poses no threat to your network
would be nice though to see what is outbound
might be a way to catch spyware in action

Well the possibility always exists that a Trojan can sneak in through an e-mail that will dial out and open your computer to a hacker.

It is important. It is your last line of defence. Should a trojan or some other malware make it through your other defences, your outbound firewall will alert you BEFORE it can “phone-home” to the attacker with your personal data.

Yeah!: Its most important in case u dont want your Emails or Data sent from your organisation to be blocked and your IP blacklisted.
Outbound network protection can be done using staefull advanced firewalls, which check the state of each data being sent from your network.
The firewalls can block all the unscrupulous outbound data being sent from the network.
They can block spams being generated from network etc .
