Vista, DVR functions, and Dish Network HD Receiver?
April 29th, 2009 | by protection |historyhobiest asked:
Hello, I have Vista Ultimate and a Dish Network HD Receiver.
1. Can I hook up my receiver to the PC to use it as a DVR with the receiver as source?
2. Is there protection/encryption I need to worry about?
3. Do I need any special hardware (HD Tuner?) to do this?
4. If so, any recommendations?

yes you are going to need an hdtv tuner. they come in either PCI cards, USB boxes, or PCMCIA cards for laptops. Make sure it’s HDTV capable, there are a lot of cheap analog models floating around out there. I have an analog myself, that I paid $20 for, for the purpose of moving my vhs stuff to dvd, which analog is all you need for that project. It should come with software for recording such as WinDVR or something similar.
This is where I got my cheapo version =|c:1427|
They have a variety of models, make sure you get one that is HDTV capable. BTW this company, tigerdirect, is a great company to do business with but avoid giving them your email address. I don’t know if it was them, it might have been coincidence, but after I purchased some items from them my spam folder filled up every day, so if they ask for an email, make a throw away one on yahoo. Other than that, they were great, their items come to your house in no time at all.
